Planting new churches isn’t about rolling out a franchise or ticking a box. It’s about noticing where love and welcome are needed, and starting something rooted in that place. Every community is different, every story is unique — and that’s the beauty of it.
At Light’s Hope, we believe new churches should grow like wildflowers: locally rooted, shaped by the people who gather, and nourished by the Spirit who moves among us. Some plants begin in a front room or a café, others under oak trees or in hired halls. However it begins, the heart is always the same: creating a place of belonging where everyone is welcome, questions are honoured, and the way of Jesus can be explored without fear.
Jesus Himself began by gathering people in ordinary places — at kitchen tables, on hillsides, by lakes and roadsides. He didn’t wait for perfect buildings or polished structures; He met people where they were, and built community through love, courage, and compassion. That’s the pattern we follow when we plant new churches today.
If you feel called to begin something new, you won’t be left to do it alone. We offer a starter kit of resources — simple liturgy, community-building guides, policies for safe practice, and practical help with things like governance and finance. We also provide mentoring, peer support networks, and training opportunities. You’ll have people walking alongside you, encouraging you, and helping you grow into whatever shape your community needs to take.
Funding is never one-size-fits-all. Some plants will be self-sustaining through local giving, some will have bi-vocational leaders, and others may receive support from the wider family of churches. However it looks, we’re committed to being transparent, fair, and generous, making sure new plants have the stability they need in their first steps.
Whether your dream is to gather five people around a kitchen table, or to create a new hub of worship and community in your town, we’re here to help you take those first steps. Planting isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence. It’s about creating a place where stories can be shared, lives can be changed, and where the welcome of Jesus can be experienced in the everyday.
If you’re interested in exploring church planting with us, we’d love to hear your story. Let’s see what might grow, together.
Church Planting – Common Questions
Do I need a building to start a church?
No. Many of our churches began in living rooms, pubs, parks, or cafés. What matters is gathering people, not bricks and mortar. If you grow into needing a space, we’ll help you think that through.
What if I’m not ordained yet?
That’s absolutely fine. Plants often begin with lay leaders, with mentoring and training provided as the community grows. If you feel called to ordination, we’ll walk with you on that journey too.
How will I be supported?
You’ll receive a starter kit of resources, a mentor, access to training, and connection with other planters for encouragement. You’re never left to carry it alone.
How does funding work?
Each plant is different. Some are supported by local giving, others by bi-vocational leadership, and some by grants or sister churches. We’ll work with you to find a sustainable path.
What kind of churches can be planted?
Big or small, formal or informal, urban or rural — each plant has its own character. The only constant is our shared DNA of welcome, inclusivity, and honesty.
Do I have to get everything right before I start?
No. Plants grow in real life, with all its mess and beauty. We don’t expect perfection — just presence, curiosity, and care for your community.
