Who We Are

We are Light’s Hope — an independent, progressive church, denomination and movement, rooted in welcome and built for today. A church without walls so no matter where you are, you can come along. Our life is shaped by the Anglican way: prayer, worship, Baptism, and Communion at the heart of community. Our minister, curates, deacons, and priests, all serve as companions, not gatekeepers, walking alongside with care and support. As an independent Anglican church, we are free to carry this tradition forward in ways that are inclusive, progressive, and real.

Here, faith isn’t a requirement and doubt isn’t a barrier. Whoever you are: LGBTQIA2+, neurodivergent, spiritually curious, deconstructed, wounded, hopeful, on a different path, part of a different faith or someone who has never believed at all, you are welcome. We honour the full spectrum of human experience, believing every story brings something sacred. We follow the example of Jesus, who never turned people away. Our values are simple: people over process, truth with kindness, justice with mercy, joy, integrity, hope, and belonging.

We’re committed to building beyond ourselves: planting new communities where welcome is needed, offering clear and supportive ordination pathways, and partnering with others to serve the common good. Our worship is warm and accessible, our safeguarding transparent, and our life together open to questions, laughter, and shared responsibility. Whoever you are, however you come, you have a place here.

Here, faith isn’t a requirement and doubt isn’t a barrier. We honour the full spectrum of experience, knowing that every story brings something sacred to the table. We believe that faith is a journey, not a gate to be passed through. You don’t need to have all the answers to feel at home among us. We grow together, ask hard questions together, and make room for difference, not as a problem to fix, but as something to honour.

You don’t need to fit a mould to feel at home here. You don’t need to have everything worked out to be met with kindness and belonging. We’re building a community where every story matters, and where people are free to explore, connect, and believe in ways that are honest and real. We follow the example of Jesus, who never turned people away. He welcomed the overlooked, the excluded, the doubters and the seekers, so we do the same. We don’t ask for perfection, certainty, or a polished belief system. All we care about is that you’re curious to know more about him. The rest, we walk together.

Whilst we have our hearts in the Christian tradition, we recognise and honour the wisdom carried by other faiths and spiritual traditions. We believe difference is a gift, not a barrier, and belonging in our Churches never requires leaving behind your own heritage or journey. While we gather as Christians, we walk alongside people of all paths in friendship, respect, and shared commitment to compassion, justice, and the care of our communities. We will celebrate with you and stand with all our communities paths.

We’re also committed to building beyond ourselves. That means helping to plant new communities of faith, and churches, that carry this same inclusive, grounded spirit, wherever they’re needed. And for those who feel called to serve and lead, we offer support and guidance through ordination training, helping people step into ministry with confidence, depth, and the freedom to be fully themselves.

Whoever you are, however you come, you’re welcome. This is a place to belong, be heard, be held, be safe and to be you.

Our Vision

We believe church should honour the full spectrum of human experience — every story matters, every voice has a place. We follow Jesus, who welcomed the excluded, the doubters, and the overlooked. He never turned people away, and neither do we.

Our mission is simple:

  • To build communities of welcome that are open, inclusive, and real.
  • To grow together in compassion, justice, and hope.
  • To plant new congregations wherever this kind of church is needed.
  • To support and train those called to serve, equipping ministers to lead with confidence, honesty, and care.

The Anglican Way

When we say Anglican, we mean a way of life shaped by tradition but alive for today:

  • Worship with rhythm: Shared prayers and patterns connect us as one community — always in clear, down-to-earth language.
  • Baptism & Communion: At the centre of our life together, simple and powerful signs of God’s love and welcome. Baptism marks a beginning; Communion sustains us on the way.
  • Ministry that serves: Deacons and priests are here to encourage, listen, and guide. Their role is to serve alongside, not stand above.
  • Scripture • Tradition • Reason: We hold all three together — reading the Bible, learning from the wisdom passed down, and using our God-given minds. Questions and doubts are part of the journey, not obstacles to faith.
  • A wide welcome: Anglican life has always held space for difference. We honour that breadth while shaping a community where people are safe, seen, and supported.

We are independent of the Church of England, yet fully Anglican in faith and practice — carrying this heritage into new spaces with openness, inclusivity, progressiveness and hope.

What We Value

  • Jesus at the centre – his life, teaching, and welcome shape everything we do.
  • People over process – structures matter, but people always come first.
  • Truth with kindness – honesty and compassion belong together.
  • Justice with mercy – we stand with the poor, the planet, and the margins.
  • Joy and laughter – faith is also delight, rest, and celebration.
  • Belonging – whoever you are, you have a place here.
  • Questions – doubt isn’t failure, it’s part of the journey. Not sure on something, we welcome the questions!
  • Community – we carry life together, no one is left behind.
  • Integrity – say it, mean it, live it.
  • Hope – we believe change is always possible.

Our Heart

Whoever you are, however you come, you are welcome here. This is a place to belong, to be heard, and to be yourself. You don’t need certainty, perfection, or a polished belief system. All that matters is a willingness to explore what the life and teaching of Jesus might mean for you. The rest, we discover together.

How We Worship

  • Sundays & Gatherings: A clear, warm service with readings, short teaching, prayer, music, and Communion. Language is plain and easy to understand. Access needs are thought out and online gatherings for those who cannot make in person meetings. Children and teens are included, not sidelined.
  • Prayer in Daily Life: Simple patterns for home and work — morning/evening prayers, blessings for meals, prayers for anxiety or illness, and short liturgies for milestones (new job, moving house, grief) – can all be given and helped with.
  • Seasons of the Year: We follow the Christian calendar (Advent to Easter to Ordinary Time), using each season to reflect and renew — always with practical steps, not just words.

Inclusion & Safeguarding

  • Full welcome: The LGBTQIA2+ community are fully included at every level of church life and leadership. We say this plainly and fiercely because clarity is care.
  • Accessibility: We prioritise step‑free access where possible, online gatherings, clear signage, strong‑contrast print, captions where available, quiet spaces, and sensory‑aware planning.
  • Neurodivergent‑friendly: Predictable service structure, content warnings where helpful, and options for movement or quiet.
  • Safeguarding: We follow recognised best practice for safeguarding children and adults and engage external training via Thirtyone:eight. /DBS checks for all ministers and key volunteers. Concerns are handled transparently and promptly.

Belonging & Next Steps

You can belong here at your own pace. No tests. No hidden hoops.

  • Exploring faith: Short, welcoming groups where nothing is off‑limits and no question is “silly.”
  • Becoming part of the community: A simple pathway that explains who we are, how decisions are made, how we handle money, and where you can serve if you want to.
  • Baptism & Confirmation: When you are ready, we’ll walk with you through these steps with clarity and care. No pressure, no rush.

Ministry & Training

We recognise curates (new to training), deacons (servant‑leaders focused on practical care, outreach, and worship) and priests (leaders‑teachers who lead congregations, preach, and preside at Communion). We provide a clear, accessible training route that blends:

  • Learning: Scripture, theology, pastoral care, ethics, and Anglican worship.
  • Practice: Mentored placement in a local congregation.
  • Formation: Character, accountability, and healthy rhythms for long‑term ministry.
Ordination is about call and service, not status.

Planting & Partnerships

We help start new congregations where welcome is needed:

  • Start‑up kit: Simple liturgies, safeguarding templates, budgets, training videos, and coaching.
  • Lightweight structure: Clear oversight without heavy bureaucracy.
  • Local flavour: Each plant reflects its neighbourhood; we provide the backbone, not a one‑size shell.
We also collaborate with charities, community groups, and other churches where it serves the common good.

Governance & Transparency

  • Trustees & Accountability: A board of trustees (with clear role descriptions and a code of conduct) safeguards vision, people, and resources.
  • Open finances: Annual budget and reports published. No pressure‑giving. Transparent handling of gifts and grants.
  • Clear policies: Equality & inclusion, safeguarding, data protection, complaints, and financial controls are public and easy to understand.
  • Listening culture: Healthy feedback routes; independent safeguarding advice as needed.
